The newly renovated Goodrich Hall provides classrooms, offices, and a commons room for the department. A computer classroom allows the department to integrated computer algebra software into introductory mathematics classes such as calculus and precalculus. Two smaller classrooms provide room for smaller advanced classes. A lecture hall provides space for the department's semimontly colloquium and larger classes. Students may also take advantage of a commons room and a small computer lab to gather and work together.
The department teaches its beginning mathematics courses (calculus and precalculus) in an integrated laboratory-classroom. This room, designed by the department, allows students to move easily from group work to individual work, from work at the blackboard to work at computers to desk work. Each desk has space for two to three students and a computer with several software packages especially for mathematics. In addition to classes meeting in this room during the day, it hosts mathematics tutoring in the evenings and serves as a place where mathematics students in any class can work on homework.
Advanced mathematics classes are usually small and make use of technology as appropriate. Computers are widely available on campus for students to use. Professors also have computers in their offices for use when students have one-on-one meetings.
Introductory computer science courses use Java and Pentium-based Windows PCs, while advanced courses move to C++ on Linux machines. These Linux machines are also connected to the network and are accessible from any of the computer classrooms or the student's living unit.
