Preparing for Off-Campus Study

Each semester, the International Center staff invites students who will study off campus the following semester to a Pre-Departure Orientation. In this orientation, we cover several key points to help students prepare, including the following:

LOGISTICS

  • Immigration considerations, such as obtaining a passport and visa
  • Securing scholarships
  • Searching for and purchasing airplane tickets
  • Planning for safety
  • What to pack
  • Banking and communications while off campus
  • Planning weekend and holiday travel 

ACADEMICS

  • Choosing courses with care and intention
  • Ensuring pre-approved Wabash credit

SOCIO-CULTURAL

  • Coping with culture shock and discrimination
  • Being mindful of transferrable skills that you're developing off campus
