Title: The Marginal Revolution
Course Section Number: PPE-258-02
Department: Philosophy, Politics, Economic
Description: The Marginal Revolution (late 19th century) was a critical moment in the history of economic thought. For the first time, professional economic theorists developed and possessed a consistent theory to explain and understand the machinations of rational decision makers, market dynamics and the pricing system. Since then, the related fields of microeconomic theory and applied political economy have expanded and developed a variety of theoretical insights along-side real and historic applications including but not limited to: an advanced model of consumer behavior, an industrial organizational model of firms, a framework for understanding international trade, business cycles, positive political economy and developmental economics. Students will read and gain a working understanding of the historical context and intellectual substance of the marginal revolution, as well as they will survey and apply insights from subsequent applications and debates.
