Wabash College senior Brady Claxton (Shelbyville, IN/Shelbyville) (photo) passed the 1,000-career-point plateau early in the game, but it was the free throw shooting of junior Matt Storm (Anderson, IN/Lapel) in the final minute that secured a 65-61 victory for the Little Giant basketball team over Kenyon College on Saturday afternoon.

Claxton fire his way over the 1,000-point mark by scoring 11 of the first 13 points for Wabash as the Little Giants took a 13-2 lead in the first two minutes of the game. The Lords responded with a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to cut into the Wabash lead, tying the game at 15-15.

The Little Giants would go back up by seven points on a layup by Jesse Burgess (Camby, IN/Mooresville) with 4:37 left in the opening period. Kenyon came back again, drawing to within one point at 27-26.

Wabash took a 33-29 lead into the locker room at halftime, only to see Kenyon continue to hang around in the early minutes of the second period. The Lords continued to hound Wabash with its outside shooting, using the three-point shot to eventually take a 49-44 lead with eight minutes left in the contest. Kenyon hit 9-of-26 three-point bombs in the game.

Senior Joe DesJean (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) attacked in the lane and crashed the boards to help the Little Giants outscore Kenyon 21-12 over the final eight minutes to give Wabash its seventh consecutive win at at home and its 12th win overall.

But the game was still in doubt until Storm hit four consecutive free throws in the final minute to complete the Wabash run for the win.

Wabash dominated the offensive glass in the game. The Little Giants converted 20 offensive rebounds into 17 second-chance points while holding the Lords to no points on only six offensive boards.

DesJean led the Little Giants with 18 points and 10 rebounds, including seven offensive boards. Storm had 14 points coming off the bench, while Claxton finished the contest with 13 points, giving him 1,005 for his career.
