Second-chance Baskets Send Wabash to Defeat at Wooster

The Wabash basketball team saw the Wooster Scots score 15 points on second-chance baskets on the way to a 76-63 victory over the Little Giants in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon. Wooster outrebounded Wabash 44-26. The Scots grabbed 15 offensive rebounds.

Despite the Scots’ advantage on the offensive glass, the Little Giants stayed close throughout much of the contest. Wabash tied the game at 38-38 in the first five minutes of the second half after trailing by three at halftime. Wooster went on a 7-0 run to take a 45-38 lead and never allowed the Little Giants to get closer than five for the next five minutes. The Scots took their largest lead of the game with 4:35 left in the contest when Kyle Witucky hit a three-point to put Wooster in front 65-51.

Senior Joe DesJean (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) (photo)paced the Little Giants with 25 points. Fellow senior Brady Claxton (Shelbyville, IN/Shelbyville) added 18, and freshman Chris Waters (Gary, IN/Calumet) had 10. Wabash could not keep Wooster senior Bryan Nelson off the scoreboard. He led the Scots with 31 points.

Wabash falls to 9-3 with the loss, suffering its first NCAC loss in four games. The 13th-ranked Scots move to 12-1, 4-0 in the NCAC.

Wabash will return to Chadwick Court for the first time in 2003 on Wednesday, January 15 for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff against Earlham College.
