Wabash Powers Past Anderson for Fourth Victory of the Season

Wabash outshot Anderson University 35-15 on the way to a 5-1 victory over the Ravens in the Little Giants' home opener on Wednesday night.

With the flag at half-mast, and after observing a moment of silence prior to the start of the match in remembrance of the victims of September 11th, the Little Giants pressured the Anderson defense all game long. Senior forward Carlos Aguirre (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) and freshman forward Chase Lamm (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) started the scoring for Wabash. Lamm stole a pass near midfield and worked the ball through the defense. As he dribbled past the last defender he flicked the ball to his right where Aguirre took the pass and fired home the first goal of the match.

The Little Giants made it 2-0 when sophomore Morgan Patchell (Kalamazoo, MI/Loy Norrix) drove toward the right side of the field, then turned toward the goal. He blasted a shot between the goalkeeper and the near post to score the eventual game-winning goal.

After Anderson cut the lead to one in the second minute of the second half before Lamm struck again. The freshman scored his fourth goal of the season in the 50th minute to put the Little Giants in front 3-2.

Another freshman answered the scoring call in the 71st minute. Newcomer Adam Wynn (Grapevine, TX/Colleyville Heritage) scored his first career goal at Wabash on a rebound of a header by Aguirre in the front of the goal. Wynn took the rebound and into the net, past the Anderson goalie, giving the Little Giants a 4-1 lead.

Lamm struck once more, scoring his team-leading fifth goal and 13th point after taking a pass from sophomore Tom Reifenberg (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers). The two-goal game was the first of Lamm's career.

Senior Graham Bailey (Evansville, IN/Evansville North) made seven saves to earn his second win of the season. The Little Giants had 15 shots on goal while holding the Ravens to eight.

Wabash moves to 4-2 with the victory. The Little Giants will play DePauw University at Mud Hollow Field on Wednesday, September 18 at 3 p.m.
