Soccer Season Set to Start at Wabash

The Wabash College soccer team is on the pitch and ready to begin the 2002 season. Forty-two players have started pre-season practices, including 22 freshman members that make up an outstanding recruiting class for third-year coach George Perry.

Perry's squad steadily improved throughout the 2001 season to finish 5-8-2 with a 3-5-1 North Coast Athletic Conference record. The Little Giants will have nine returning starters back for the 2002 campaign. Senior goalkeeper Graham Bailey (Evansville, IN/Evansville North) is back for his final season, while Carlos Aguirre (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis), last year's leading scorer with nine goals and three assists, returns for his senior year. A talented group of sophomores, including Tom Reifenberg (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Dwenger), Danny Schubert (Lebanon, IL/Lebanon), and Colin Smith (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) will join junior Brandon Hall (Boise, ID/Capital) and senior Casey Gioielli (Cincinnati, OH/Indian Hill) on the Wabash roster for 2002.

John Griffin returns for his second season as an assistant to Coach Perry. Robert Horton joins the staff as an assistant coach after playing for four seasons at NCAA Division I University of Richmond.

Wabash opens the 2002 season at the DePauw Classic on Saturday, August 31. The Little Giants will play Kalamazoo College at 2 p.m. in Greencastle, IN.
