Errors Overshadow Mack's Performance in Loss at Wittenberg

Seven errors by the Wabash baseball team cost the Little Giants a chance at victory on Saturday afternoon, despite three home runs off the bat of sophomore Mike Mack (Butler, IN/Eastside). The Little Giants lost 10-7 to Wittenberg in Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference contest.

Mack went 3-for-4 in the game, launching three homers and accounting for four RBIs in the Wabash loss. The game was far from flawless as the two teams combined for 11 errors and two wild pitches.

The Little Giants jumped out to a 2-1 lead before Wittenberg tied the game in the third. The Tigers took a 6-2 lead in the fourth as Wittenberg's Bryan Burke crushed a grand slam after two errors and a walk with two outs kept the inning alive for the Tigers. Wittenberg put the game out of reach with four more runs over the next three innings.

Wabash responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run shot by Mack, then scored a run in both the eighth and ninth to fall three runs short.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Mud Hollow Field, but was moved to Wittenberg after weather conditions throughout the week kept the field at Wabash from being ready for play.

Freshman Bill Goff (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) was saddled with the loss.

Wabash (12-13, 0-1 NCAC West) will return to Mud Hollow Field on Tuesday, April 2 for a 3 p.m. contest against LaGrange College.
