Goff, Prickel Combine for 2-0 Win for Wabash

Freshman Bill Goff (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) and senior Ben Prickel (Lafayette, IN/Harrison) kept the Hanover Panthers off the scoreboard on an overcast day at Mud Hollow Field as the Wabash baseball team earned a 2-0 victory on Tuesday afternoon.

Goff earned his first win in a Wabash uniform, pitching eight scoreless innings. He gave up six hits, walked two, and struck out two. Prickel came on in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

The Little Giants fought for the win, finding a way to score two runs on only five hits.

The first run came in the second inning when Mike Mack (Butler, IN/Eastside) drew a one-out walk. He stole second, then raced to third on a throwing error by the Panthers' catcher. Senior Bryson Renbarger (Converse, IN/Eastern) brought Mack home on a ground ball to give Wabash a 1-0 lead.

The Little Giants added an insurance run in the fifth after Renbarger opened the inning with a base hit up the middle. Goff sacrificed him to second to set up freshman Jared Martin (Rosedale, IN/Riverton Parke). Martin smacked a sharp-hit ball into centerfield, scoring Renbarger and giving Wabash a 2-0 advantage.

Goff and Prickel did the rest, holding the Panthers to three hits for the remainder of the game.

"We did the little things today," said Wabash coach Tom Flynn. "We really concentrated on playing hard with every pitch. We ran well as a team, we got a bunt down to set up a run, and got good pitching. I'm very pleased with our team effort today."

The Little Giants even their record at 10-10 with the win. Hanover falls to 9-5-1. Wabash will participate in the Denison Tournament this weekend, opening play in Lancaster, Ohio against Lake Erie College on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
