Little Giant Tankers Victorious in Final Home Dual Meet of the Season

The Wabash College swimming and diving team produced some outstanding performances in the final home dual meet Friday night, defeating Millikin University 220-16. Millikin was not able to bring its entire squad so Little Giants competed against the clock and each other in many races.

The Wabash 200 medley relay with Brad Williams (Columbus, IN/Columbus North), Colin Fahey (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard), Brandon Peacock (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville), and Bernie Manker (Grand Rapids, MI/Northview) won the opening event in 1:41.49. Junior tri-captain Nick Collins (Michigantown, IN/Clinton Central) was a triple individual victor winning the 200 free (1:49.69), 100 free (51.04), and 200 individual medley ( 2:03.74). Williams won both 100 backstroke (55.68) and 200 backstroke (2:03.21) events.

Fahey swam an excellent 200 breaststroke (2:16.76), and Peacock looked strong touching first in the 50 freestyle (22.30). Dennis Bowers (Seymour, IN/Seymour), who studied in Costa Rica during the fall semester, won the challenging 1000 freestyle (10:50.55).

Ben Hewitt (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) came from behind to win the 100 breaststroke, just nipping Jon-Myckle Price (Logansport, IN/Logansport). The pair finished with times of 1:03.69 and 1:03.72. Price came back to win the 100 butterfly in 55.67. Brett Findley (Bargersville, IN/Franklin Community) continued his 200 butterfly domination winning in 2:02.10.

Steve Birrer (Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg) swam a lifetime best 500 freestyle, winning in 5:09.47.

Williams, Bowers, Hewitt, and Findley captured the final 200 freestyle relay (1:32.11) in a close contest with the team of Price, Birrer, Ben Vidic and Manker, with Manker swimming a 21.90 anchor to close the gap to .3 second.

Freshman diver Aaron Stump (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso) produced his career best one-meter diving performance with 225.60 and scored 213.50 on the three-meter board.

Wabash will travel to Kalamazoo College next Saturday to take on the nationally-ranked Hornets in a dual meet.
