Knott Named Conference Offensive Player of the Year

Wabash College junior quarterback Jake Knott (Lafayette, IN/Jefferson) has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

Knott receives the Mike Gregory Award. The award is presented by Richard Gregory of Columbus, Ohio in honor of his father, a multi-sport standout at Denison in the 1920’s. Knott follows in the footsteps of his head coach, Chris Creighton, who won the Mike Gregory Award in 1989 as the starting quarterback for Kenyon College. Creighton completed his first season as the head coach at Wabash this year.

Knott led Wabash to an 8-2 record, 6-1 in conference play. The Little Giants tied for second place with Ohio Wesleyan in the final NCAC standings. Knott set a conference record for touchdown passes in a season with 34 while leading the NCAC in passing efficiency (154.1) and total offense (3,224 yards) and finishing second in passing yardage (2,909). Knott finished fifth in the national rankings in total offense and 16th in passing efficiency. He was a First Team All-Conference selection for the second consecutive season.

He broke his own school record for passing yardage in a season and set the Wabash career passing yardage mark, finishing his third season as the starting quarterback for the Little Giants with 8,259 yards. He also holds the Wabash career mark for TD passes with 81.

Knott threw for five touchdowns in three consecutive games against Hiram, Allegheny, and Dension. He had back-to-back games of 381 passing yards against Denison and DePauw University for season highs in single game passing yardage. He threw four TD passes against DePauw in the 108th Monon Bell Classic, none more exiting than the final play of the game when he threw a 52-yard scoring strike to give Wabash a 27-21 win.

Knott, an economics major, is a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and is the starting catcher for the Wabash baseball team.

Knott is the son of Dave ’69 and Barbara Knott of Lafayette, Indiana.

Wabash became a member of the NCAC in all sports except football in 1999. Knott is the first Wabash player to earn Football Conference Player of the Year honors since the Little Giants participated in football in the NCAC in 2000.
