Healy Advances to National Championships in Wrestling

Two second-place finishes and four third-place finishes in the individual weight classes led the Wabash College wrestling team to a third-place team finish at Saturdayís NCAA Division III Midwest Wrestling Regional, hosted by Case Western Reserve University.

Sophomore Chris Healy will continue his season at the NCAA Division III Nationals, earning a wild card bid at 174 pounds. Now 45-7 on the year, Healy will continue to build on his Wabash College single season record for most wins in a season.

Sophomores Phu Hong and Healy captured second-place finishes in their weight classes. Hong cruised to a 20-7 victory in his opening match at 125 pounds before losing in the championship match 13-6 to Nick Iannerelli of Manchester.

Healy pinned Illinois Collegeís Mike Dowey in 2:15 in his first match at 174 pounds. Healy took an 11-8 victory over Jeremy Mosier of Millikin in the semifinals to advance to the championship match against Manchesterís J.J Davis. Davis came away with a hard-fought 5-4 win over Healy, earning the Wabash wrestler a second-place finish at 174 pounds.

Junior Reece Collins was the first of four Little Giants to claim third-place Regional honors. Collins finished the tournament with a three consecutive wins after losing his opening match, including a 4-2 win in the third-place finals contest. Freshman Kevin Meyer took third place at 165 pounds, winning his last three matches of the day, as well.

Seniors Logan Kuhne and Joe Scanlon also grabbed third-place finishes. Kuhne took third at 197 pounds with a weekend record of 3-1. Scanlon got revenge in his third-place championship match. His only loss of the weekend came by a 4-2 loss to Ryan Tiseo of Olivet College. The two grapplers met in the third-place match with Scanlon coming up with a pin of Tiseo at 2:59.

Sophomore Adam Miller captured fourth place at 157 pounds. Freshman Joe Seger took fifth place at 184 pounds.

The Little Giants finished with 99-1/2 points. Manchester won the team title with 111 points. Olivet College was second with 107 points.
