University of Chicago Scholar to Speak at Wabash

Crawfordsville, Ind. — The Center of Inquiry in the Liberal Arts at Wabash College and Phi Beta Kappa Society are pleased to announce the visit to campus of Wendy Doniger on Thursday, February 6. Doniger will present a talk on “Interdisciplinary Cross-Cultural Eclecticism” at 8 p.m. in the Lovell Lecture Room in Baxter Hall.

Doniger will deliver the keynote address for the second in a series of colloquies co-sponsored by the Center of Inquiry in the Liberal Arts and the Phi Beta Kappa Society this semester. The four colloquies will address topics of interest to those in the field of liberal arts education.

During the second colloquy, February 6-8, participants will question whether liberal arts education is essentially a Western concept.

Doniger is the Mircea Eliade Distinguished Service Professor of the History of Religions at the University of Chicago. She is one of the most important scholars of Hinduism writing in English. Her 20 books range from detailed analyses of Hindu myths to a recent translation of the Kamasutra.

Her talk is free and open to the public.
