Glee Club Campus Concert Sunday

The Wabash College Glee Club will present its Campus Concert at 4 p.m., Sunday, March 21, in Salter Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Center.

The Glee Club recently returned from its Spring 2010 Concert Tour. The group presented church concerts in Danville and St. Charles, IL, and a program at Westminster Village Presbyterian Retirement Community in Evanston, IL. The Glee Club’s Cincinnati area concerts included a performance for the Cincinnati Rotary Club, a joint program with the Delta Kings Barbershop Chorus, and a concert at Walton-Verona High School, in Walton, KY.

The 40-member Glee Club will open Sunday’s program with several sacred selections, including two settings of Ave Maria, and a setting of the familiar American melody, Amazing Grace. They will continue with two spirituals, Lay Up Your Treasures in Heaven, and Little Innocent Lamb. Irish and Scottish tunes are featured in Down by the Sally Gardens, Bonnie Mary of Argyle, and Annie Laurie. The T-Tones, a 12-member Glee Club ensemble, will sing several close-harmony songs, including the Beach Boy’s 1963 chart-topper, In My Room, as well as a barbershop standard, Coney Island Baby.

The audience will be invited to join their voices with the Glee Club for Old Wabash and the Alma Mater. As an added bonus, emeritus professor John Zimmerman will present photo highlights from this year’s concert tour.

The Glee Club is under the direction of Richard Bowen and is accompanied by Cheryl Everett. The concert is free and open to the public.
