Description: This course explores how American religious leaders and denominations have defined, transgressed, and challenged ideas about the body. Students will learn about the relationship between disability, race, gender, sexuality, and religion in American's past and present. Using creative source bases, methods, and interpretive frameworks, we will think critically about how power and representation (in the archives, media, political discourse, and everyday life) shape our understanding of religion and bodies.
