Description: This 1st half-semester course is an introduction to the theme of religion and the performing arts: theater, dance, performance art, puppets etc. We will survey and discuss various the topics like: performance as a medium of religious messages; what does it mean to be an observer, participant or performer; what is the role of body as a tool for expression of something sacred compared to something secular; and what does the subject have to do with the current issues of body, gender and sexuality. In addition to reading and discussion, we will write and prepare short performances, either speeches or any type chosen by the students.
