Wilhelm, Flynn, Adams Earn All-Conference Honors

Seniors Matt Wilhelm (Wabash, IN/Southwood) and Jay Dee Flynn (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville), and junior Scott Adams (Avon, IN/Avon) were selected to the North Coast Athletic Conference All-Conference Baseball Team.

Wilhelm was named First Team All-Conference after finishing second in the NCAC in home runs this season. Wilhelm shattered the single-season and career home run records at Wabash College. His 11 homers this year gave him 23 for his career, easily passing the previous career mark set by Jason Cantrell '93 of 13. Wilhelm had shared the single-season record of six with Cantrell and Nate Baker '94 before his double-figure onslaught this year.

Wilhelm is not only the Little Giants' home run champion, but also led the team in batting with a .357 average. He was the leader in runs scored (32), doubles (7), walks (15), RBIs (32), slugging percentage (.704), on base percentage (.457), hits (41), and total bases (81). He was the only Wabash player to start all 36 games, playing every inning at either first base or in right field.

Wilhelm was named the Little Giants' Most Valuable Player for the 2000 season, and earned his fourth letter in baseball. He is the son of Dave and Donna Wilhelm of Wabash, IN.

Flynn was named to the Honorable Mention All-Conference team. He finished his career with 174 hits, making him all-time leader in hits for Wabash. He was 34-111 at the plate this year, finishing third on the team in hitting with a .320 batting average. Flynn finished third on the career stolen base chart with 57 thefts after adding 15 steals out of 18 attempts this year. He also leaves the baseball program as the career leader in triples with 11. He is the son of Bob and Joni Flynn of Crawfordsville, IN.

Adams was also placed on the Honorable Mention All-Conference squad after posting four wins for Wabash this season and leading the Little Giant starters with a 5.37 ERA. He had the lowest opposing batting average of any Wabash starter as well, holding the opposition to .278. Adams earned the NCAC Pitcher of the Week Award after throwing a complete-game shutout against conference foe Earlham on April 9. The right-hander allowed only four hits while striking out seven Quaker batters. Adams finished the year second in strikeouts among the Wabash pitching staff with 33. A speech major and two-year letterman, he is the son of Kenneth and Beverly Adams of Avon, IN.
