Second-Half Comeback Gives Wabash the Win over Alma

Wabash got a lightning-quick goal to start the game, then had to rally with two second-half goals to take a 3-2 victory over Alma College in the opening game of the Scotland Yard Soccer Classic on Saturday afternoon.

The Little Giants opened the match by scoring in the first 13 seconds. Freshman Aaron Kunkle (Ft. Wayne, IN/Concordia Lutheran) drove his first shot of the game home in the first minute to give Wabash a 1-0 lead over the tournament hosts. Alma responded almost as quickly, scoring the game-tying goal at 4:59 into the match when Wes Rasdorf scored off of a pass from Josh Morgan.

The Scots took their first lead of the match in the 15th minute when Rasdorf passed the ball to Evan Hammontree, who put the ball past Wabash freshman goalkeeper Will McAdams (Carmel, IN/Carmel). It was the last ball to get past McAdams, who made six saves in 90 minutes in goal for the Little Giants.

Wabash got the game-tying goal in the 53rd minute from its leading scorer for the season. Freshman Chase Lamm (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) scored his third goal of the season on a penalty kick to knot the match at 2-2.

Lamm had a hand in the game-winner, as well. The freshman forward fired a pass to sophomore Tom Reifenberg (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers) in the 61st minute. Reifenberg slammed th shot home, scoring his first goal of the season and giving the Little Giants their third consecutive victory.

Alma outshot the Little Giants 18-17, but Wabash put nine shots on goal to eight for the Scots.

The Little Giants will play Aquinas College on Sunday in the third game of the Scotland Yard Soccer Classic.
