Tankers Lose First Dual Meet of the Season at St. Louis

The Wabash College swimming and diving team suffered its first dual meet defeat of the season, falling 151-92 at hands of a strong Washington University squad Saturday afternoon in St. Louis.

Although Wabash won only three individual events, the Little Giants had some outstanding performances. Junior tri-captain Nick Collins (Michigantown, IN/Clinton Central) won the 200 freestyle in 1:48.90 with a strong finish out touching Washington’s Brian Hindman by just .03.

Brett Findley (Bargersville, IN/Franklin Community) captured first place in the 200 butterfly (2:02.33). The sophomore was gaining rapidly in final leg of 200 individual medley, but just missed catching Washington’s Mike Hernandez by .12 second in the 200 individual medley, placing second with a time of 2:02.20. Freshman Ben Hewitt (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) swam to victory in the 200 breaststroke in 2:16.81 after competing in both the 1000 and 500 freestyle, placing third in the 1000.

Freshman diver Aaron Stump (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso) produced career bests, placing second in both the one-meter (218.95) and three-meter (215.55) diving events.

Freshman Brad Williams (Columbus, IN/Columbus North) was second in the 1000 free (10:28.25). Freshman Zach Sundstrom (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) was second in the 200 backstroke (2:03.46), followed by another freshman, Jonathan Bruce (Woodburn, OR/Home school), in third. Jon-Myckle Price (Logansport, IN/Logansport) was third in the 200 breaststroke, and Brandon Peacock (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) was third in the 100 freestyle.

Colin Fahey (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard), Bernie Manker (Grand Rapids, MI/Northview), Sundstrom, and Peacock placed second in the 400 medley relay (3:40.99). Fahey, Peacock, Findley and Willliams were second in the 400 freestyle relay.

The Little Giants will host Millikin University Friday, January 25, in the Wabash Class of 1950 Natatorium at 7 p.m.
