Flynn Hired as Assistant at Randolph-Macon

Ashland, VA — Randolph-Macon College head football coach Scott Boone has announced that he has hired Jay Dee Flynn as a receivers coach and recruiter for the Yellow Jackets.

Flynn, a senior at Wabash College, was a four-year letterman for the Little as a wide receiver and return specialist. He was the football team’s Most Valuable Player in 1999, catching 70 passes for 1,079 yards. Flynn ended his Wabash career ranked third in career receiving with 2,061 yards. Flynn was a part of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship football team that finished the 1999 season with an undefeated conference record and a 9-1 overall mark. Flynn spent the 2000 season as a volunteer assistant receivers coach for the Little Giants

"I’m very excited that Jay Dee will be joining our staff," said Boone, a 1981 Wabash graduate and former Little Giant football and baseball coach. "Having known him as an outstanding high school player and being able to coach him as a freshman at Wabash, I felt very comfortable with him. He will bring a new enthusiasm to our program and his work with the successful football and baseball programs at Wabash give him instant credibility with our players. I think Jay Dee will grasp this opportunity and run with it. He was the only candidate I considered for this position."

Flynn earned four letters as a member of the Little Giant baseball team, earning Honorable Mention All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors as an outfielder in 2000. A team captain of the Wabash team in his final season, Flynn set the Wabash record for career hits with 174 and runs scored with 139. Flynn was a First Team All-Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference member, and was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast Region Honorable Mention team in 1998. He was part of the Little Giant squad that won the 1998 ICAC title.

Flynn graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1996, where he was a three-year letterman in both football and baseball. He was named First Team All-State in football as a senior in addition to being named First Team All-Sagamore Conference, captain, and team MVP.

"I’m excited about the opportunity that Coach Boone has made available to me," said Flynn. "I’ve enjoyed working with him as an athlete, and I look forward to working with him as an assistant coach."

Flynn begins his duties at Randolph-Macon in July. Randolph-Macon College is located in Ashland, Virginia.
