Swimming Team Caps Florida Trip with Win over Rollins

The Wabash swimming team completed its two week Florida training with a 155-44 victory over Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida on Friday.

The Little Giants swept first place in all but one event. Junior R.J. Morgan (Indianapolis, IN/North Central)(right) had three first-place finishes, including swimming the lead leg of the 200-yard medley relay team. Morgan took first place in the 50 free, touching the pad in 22.75. He was also the first to finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.73.

Senior Gary Mineart (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville) captured two first-place finishes for Wabash. Mineart took first in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing in 10:49.36 ahead of teammate Sean Gallagher (Lawrence, KS/Freestate) who finished second (10:53.67). Mineart also took first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:25.96, again just ahead of Gallagher with a second-place finishing time of 5:26.06.

Nick Collins (Michigantown, IN/Clinton Central) took first place in the 200-yard freestyle. The sophomore finished with a time of 1:52.99 ahead of Karl Grimmer (Griffith, IN/Griffith), who took second with a finishing time of 1:55.00. John Sessa (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso) was third (1:55.58).

Freshman Laurel Fox (Aurora, IN/South Dearborn) was first in the 200 individual medley (2:05.58), just ahead of fellow freshman Brett Findley (Bargersville, IN/Franklin Community) (2:05.90). Dan Burleigh (Great Falls, MT/Russell) was first in the 100 freestyle (52.06), and Ben Long (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) took first in the 100-yard backstroke (58.94). Fox took second in the 100 backstroke (1:00.77), with Findley taking third (1:00.79).

The Little Giants won both relays. Wabash took first and second in the 200-yard medley relay, and won the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Wabash remains undefeated in dual meets for the season with the win with a 5-0 mark. The Little Giants will participate in the University of Indianapolis Invitational on Friday and Saturday, while the divers will host the Little Giant January Diving Classic at the Class of ’50 Natatorium this weekend.
