Title: The Bible, Sex & Power
Course Section Number: GEN-277-01
Department: Gender Studies
Description: The texts of the Bible do not shy away from representing sex and desire and their profound concurrence with constructs of gender and power. We will probe the many sexual stories, laws, theologies, and moral teachings that populate the Bible as well as a variety of approaches to interpreting them through historical, theological, feminist, and queer frameworks. We will also critically examine the work that readings of Biblical sex perform in contemporary American sexual politics.
