Soccer Team Drops Overtime Decision

The Wabash soccer team battled back from a 2-0 deficit to open its North Coast Athletic Conference match against Hiram only to fall in overtime 3-2.

Hiram jumped out to a 2-0 lead just five minutes into the match after scoring at 1:54 on a penalty kick and an unassisted goal at the 4:53 mark. The Little Giants rallied to tie the match at 2-2 with a goal by Momodou Jagne (Banjul, Gambia/Gambia) on a penalty kick and the first goal of the season for sophomore Carlos Aguirre (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis). Jagne's goal is his fifth of the season, putting him just five goals away from becoming the all-time leading goal-scorer in Wabash history.

Neither team could tally a goal in the second half, but just 2:32 into the extra period, Hiram's Stephen Byrne gave the Terriers the victory with an unassisted goal.

Wabash moves to 1-4 with the loss, and is 0-1 in the NCAC. The Little Giants will face DePauw at Mud Hollow Field on Tuesday (9/19) at 4 p.m.
