Smit Takes Second At Hanover as Team Grabs Sixth-place Finish

Jared Smit (Lafayette, IN/Central Catholic) ran to a second-place finish out of 228 runners, leading the Red Pack to a sixth-place finish at the Hanover Invitational on Saturday (9/9) afternoon.

Smit toured the course in 27:14.30, finishing just ten seconds behind Hope's Dylan Wade. Smit missed most of the 1999 season with a knee injury after a strong freshman campaign for the Wabash squad.

Sophomore Brandon Shipp (Indianapolis, IN/Franklin Central) crossed the line in 35th-place with a time of 29:24.10. Ken Shelton (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence North), a freshman on the Little Giant team, was 38th (29:27.80). Mark Sherer (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso) was 41st with a time of 29:32.80. Dan Ruge (Chesterton, IN/Chesterton) was the fifth Wabash runner to finish, taking 47th place (29:38.20). Zach Medler (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville)(55th, 29:56.90) and Dave Seabeck (Laramie, WY/Laramie) (78th, 30:32.20) rounded out the scoring for the Little Giants.

Wabash ran the same course that will be used in November for the Great Lakes Regional race, and ran against many of the same teams that will participate in that event.

The Red Pack runners will travel to Bloomington on Friday, September 15, to participate in the Indiana Intercollegiate Race at Indiana University.
