Red Pack Third At Hokum Karem

The Wabash cross country team survived the six-mile combined run through the College campus in 90-degree heat and nearly 100-percent humidity Saturday to take third place at the 39th Annual Wabash Hokum Karem.

The Red Pack duo of junior Jared Smit (Lafayette, IN/Central Catholic) and sophomore Mark Sherer (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso) combined to finish the race in sixth place with a time of 30:45. Wabash runners Ken Shelton (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence North) and <Zach Medler (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville) were 13th, finishing in 31:33, while Dan Ruge (Chesterton, IN/Chesterton) and Derek Richey (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) completed the scoring for Wabash with an 18th place finish (32:38).

Dan Sweet (West Bloomfield, MI/Culver Military Academy) and Jesus Campos (Pharr, TX/Pharr-San Juan-Alamo) finished in 32:57 for 20th spot, Nathan Flory (Delphi, IN/Delphi) and Dave Seabeck (Laramie, WY/Laramie) were 23rd with a time of 33:21, Noah Gambill (Terre Haute, IN/Terre Haute South) and Nick Brankle (Marion, IN/Lakeview Christian) crossed the line in 28th place (34:40), and Andy Smith (Wabash, IN/Northfield) and Meech Cook (Woodbridge, VA/C.D.Hylton) grabbed 30th spot (34:47) ahead of teammates Jesse Becerra (Highland, IN/Bishop Noll Inst.) and Bryan Gonzalez (Fishers, IN/Hamilton Southeastern) in 31st place (35:10). Wabash finished with 37 points for the third-place spot in the team scoring.

DePauw took first place, just a point ahead of the University of Indianapolis. Huntington College was fourth, Millikin College fifth, and Marian College was sixth to round out the team scoring.

The Red Pack will travel to Hanover to participate in the Regional Warmup race this Saturday. Hanover will be the site of the NCAA Great Lakes Regional race November 11.
