Jagne Named All-American After Eighth Place At Nationals

Modou Jagne (Banjul, Gambia) could only complete one attempt in the triple jump at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet at North Central College over the weekend. He made that one jump count, taking eighth place in the event and earning Honorable Mention All-American honors. He repeats as an All-American in the triple jump after taking fifth place last year as a sophomore.

Jagne injured his heel three weeks earlier at the North Coast Athletic Conference Meet, but had been unable to recover completely from the injury. On Friday night he completed his first attempt in the triple jump with a leap of 45' 11 1/4" but reinjured the heel, keeping from the remainder of the competition.

"Modou is to be commended for his effort Friday night," said coach Rob Johnson "To finish eighth while competing with a bruised heel is a great accomplishment with the level of talent represented at the national meet."

Jagne qualified for the meet after setting the NCAC and Wabash record in the triple jump with a leap of 48’ 11 ¼” at the NCAC Championships May 5-6. His record setting jump passed the previous Wabash record of 48’ 8 ¾” set by John Pickerill in 1966.
