Little Giants Score Two in the Ninth to Defeat Sewanee 8-7

The Wabash baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to take an 8-7 victory over the University of the South on Friday afternoon at Mud Hollow Field.

Trailing 7-6 going into their last at bats, the Little Giants opened the inning with a walk to eventual winning pitcher Jake Martin (Rushville, IN/Rushville). Catcher Jake Knott (Lafayette, IN/Jefferson) tied the game on the next at bat with a double, then scored three batters later on an RBI single by senior Bryson Renbarger (Converse, IN/Eastern).

The ballgame was a back-and-forth battle all afternoon. Sewanee took a 4-1 lead with a three-run homer in the top of the third inning before Wabash cut the lead to one with two scores in the bottom half of the third. The Little Giants took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs on hits by Bill Goff (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg), Jared Martin (Rosedale, IN/Riverton Parke), and Danny Schubert (Lebanon, IL/Lebanon).

The Tigers responded with a two runs in the seventh before the last inning heroics by Wabash.

Martin threw two innings to earn the win for the Little Giants, who move to 15-19 with the victory. Wabash will play Franklin College at Victory Field in Indianapolis on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.
