Wrestlers End Season with Sixth-Place Regional Finish

The Wabash College wrestling team captured sixth place out of 12 teams at the NCAA Midwest Wrestling Regional, held Saturday at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Wabash finished with 56.5 points. Manchester College took first place with 136 points. Case Western Reserve tied for second with Washington and Jefferson (91 points), Millikin took fourth (90.5 points), and Waynesburg was fifth (67.5). Thiel (52.5), Rose-Hulman (49.5), Illinois College (45), Olivet College (34.5), MacMurray (22), and Mount St. Joseph (19) rounded out the team scoring.

Junior Joe Scanlon (Lafayette, IN/McCutcheon) was the highest individual finisher for the Little Giants. He took third at 285 pounds, defeating Case Western's Jon Coatoam 5-4 in the final match. Scanlon finished the weekend with a record of 3-1, losing his only match to NCAA Nationals qualifier Jamie Salazar from Manchester.

Junior Logan Kuhne (Ft. Wayne, IN/Northrop) and freshman Chris Healy (Jasper, IN/Jasper) brought home fourth-place finishes in their individual weight classes. Kuhne went 2-2 at 184 pounds. Healy finished 2-2 at 174 pounds to earn fourth place.

Freshman Phu Hong (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence Central) finished fifth at 125 pounds, while fellow freshman Danny Creasap (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence Central) was sixth in the 141-pound weight class.
