Wabash Hands Wooster 76-62 Defeat

Wabash dominated the second half of basketball at Wooster on Saturday, handing the Scots a 76-62 defeat in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

Wabash led by two at halftime, then went on runs of 7-0 and 14-0 to open the second half. The Little Giants exploded to a 22-point with 9:06 remaining in the game against the 21-st ranked Wooster squad to put the game away.

The victory was the first by Wabash against Wooster since joining the NCAC in 1999. The Little Giants handed the Scots their first regular season conference loss to a team other than Wittenberg since Denison defeated Wooster 63-62 in overtime on February 1, 1997.

The Wabash defense held the Scots to 32 percent shooting from the field in the second half, while the Little Giants hit 14-of-24 shots for 58 percent in the final period. Wabash also capitalized from the free throw line, hitting a perfect 14-of-14 in the final half and 18-of-20 for the game.

Junior guard Brady Claxton (Shelbyville, IN/Shelbyville) led the scoring attack for Wabash, finishing with 24 points. Junior forward Joe DesJean (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) added 18.

The victory allows Wabash to hold on to third place in the NCAC standings (12-10, 9-5 NCAC). The Little Giants will travel to fourth-place Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. conference matchup.
