Scanlon Finishes Eighth at Wheaton Invite

Junior Joe Scanlon (Lafayette, IN/McCutcheon) entered the 2002 Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational as the eighth seed, which is exactly where he finished for the weekend. The Little Giant team finished 18th out of 24 squads in the team standings.

Scanlon went 3-3 for the tournament at 285 pounds, winning his first two matches in the championship match. After receiving a first-round bye, he defeated David Schultz of North Central 9-6 before losing 13-2 to Ken Kobes of team-champion Embry Riddle. Scanlon swept Matt Coniglio of Heidelberg 5-0 in the consolation bracket, but lost his final two matches in the bottom bracket to finish eighth.

Logan Kuhne (Ft. Wayne, IN/Northrop) finished 3-2 for the weekend. After receiving a first-round bye, he fell to the consolation bracket with a loss in the upper bracket. Kuhne defeated Cody Wagner of Rose-Hulman by technical fall at 3:59, then blanked Wisconsin-Parkside's Rick Schmoll 10-0. Kuhne lost his final match of the tournament to eventual fifth-place wrestler Donnie Davis of William Penn (pin at 1:18).

Freshman Chris Healy (Jasper, IN/Jasper) went 2-2 with two victories in the consolation bracket, as did freshman Mark Dietzen (Elmurst, IL/York Community). Freshman Danny Creasap (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence Central) was 2-2, as well.

Wabash will travel to Olivet, Michigan for a dual meet against Olivet College on Saturday, February 16 at 2 p.m.
