Little Giant Wrestlers Win Silver Division of Monon Bell Classic

The Wabash wrestling team took first place in the Silver Division at the 18th Monon Bell Classic, held Friday and Saturday at Chadwick Court.

The two-day competition used the Olympic format, placing the nine teams that competed in the event in three pools on Friday night. The top teams from each pool met Saturday in the Gold Division, while teams with the second-best record on Friday met in the Silver Division. The three remaining teams wrestled in the Bronze Division on Saturday.

Wabash defeated Mount St. Joseph on Friday night 46-9 before falling to Manchester in the final Pool C match 34-12.

Freshman Drew McCoy (New Palastine, IN/New Palastine) wented undefeated, finishing with a perfect 4-0 record for the Classic. He opened with a 7-4 win against Robert Roberson of Mount St. Joseph on Friday night, followed by a 4-1 victory over Manchester's Lucas Ratz. McCoy handed Olivet's Chris Dunham a 5-3 loss, then finished the weekend with a dominating 12-4 win against Nick Welte of Rose-Hulman.

Freshmen Phu Hong (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence Central) captured three wins in the Classic, as did junior Logan Kuhne (Ft. Wayne, IN/Northrop). Freshmen Danny Creasap (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence Central) and Chris Healy (Jasper, IN/Jasper), along with junior Joe Scanlon (Lafayette, IN/McCutcheon) won two matches over the two days.
