Comeback Not Enough for Wabash against Wooster

Wabash battled back from a five-point halftime deficit but could not hold on in the final minutes, losing 72-69 to the College of Wooster in North Coast Athletic Conference basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

The Little Giants trailed the entire first half and continued to trail until the final three minutes of the game. With 2:55 showing on the game clock, junior guard Brady Claxton (Shelbyville, IN/Shelbyville) hit his second three-pointer of the contest to tie the game at 68-68. Wabash took a one-point lead one minute later on a Claxton free throw, only to see the Scots go in front by one on a layup by Bryan Nelson.

Wabash and Wooster traded misses before the Little Giants were forced to foul in the final minute to send the Scots to the free throw line. Matt Smith hit both free toss with :16 remaining in the contest to give Wooster the three-point lead. Wabash got a three-point shot away at the end of the game from the right side of the arc in an attempt to send the game to overtime, but it fell short of the mark.

Wabash (6-8, 3-3 NCAC) was led by Claxton's 22-point effort. Junior forward Joe DesJean (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots.

The Little Giants will stay instate for their next NCAC contest, traveling to Earlham College on Wednesday night for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
