Second Half Sparks Wabash to Win in the Pete Thorn Invitational

A 27-9 run to open the second half of play propelled Wabash to an 86-65 victory in the consolation game of the Pete Thorn Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

The Little Giants held a 40-30 lead at halftime before exploding for 27 points in nine minutes to put the game away.

Four Wabash players managed double figures in the contest. Juniors Joe DesJean (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) and Brady Claxton (Shelbyville, IN/Shelbyville) earned spots on the All-Tournament team after reaching double figures in scoring in both tournament games for the Little Giants. DesJean scored 10 points against MacMurray and added seven rebounds after finishing with 27 points and a Pete Thorn Invitational record 14 rebounds against Olivet on Friday night. Claxton followed up his 12-point performance in Satuday's loss to Olivet with another 12-point effort against MacMurray. Junior center Ryan Short (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) led Wabash in scoring with 14 points. Freshman forward Jim Sink (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) scored a career-high 11 points, hitting all five of his shots from the field with one coming from behind the three-point arc.

The Little Giants never trailed in the contest, jumping out to a 9-2 lead in the first four minutes of the contest. MacMurray cut the lead to 21-19 midway through the first period before a three-pointer by Claxton and free throws by Short put Wabash back in front by seven.

Wabash (4-6, 2-1) will return to North Coast Athletic Conference play on Friday, January 4 when Hiram College travels to Chadwick Court. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
