Tankers Taste Victory in First Dual Meet of the Season

The Wabash swimming and diving team opened the 2001-02 dual meet portion of the season with 222-75 win over Rose-Hulman Saturday afternoon in the Class of 1950 Natatorium.

Wabash broke one pool record in the meet and won 14 of the 16 events. Brad Williams (Columbus, IN/Columbus North), Colin Fahey (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard), Dean Fox (Aurora, IN/south Dearborn), and Bernie Manker (Grand Rapids, MI/Northview) combined to set the pool record in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the winning time of 1:32.45 in the final event of the meet.

Sophomore Brandon Peacock (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) joined Williams, Fahey, and Manker to win the 200 medley relay, finishing in 1:40.75.

The Little Giants had three triple winners. Junior captain Nick Collins (Michigantown, IN/Clinton Central) won the 1000 freestyle (10:29.11), the 200 freestyle (1:51.71), and the 500 freestyle (5:02.24). Freshman Zach Sundstrom (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) was victorious in the 100 backstroke (55.69), the 200 backstroke (2:01.46), and the 200 individual medley (2:05.54). Peacock added to the triple-event winners list with first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (22.48), 100 freestyle (50.03), and the 100 butterfly (55.37). Sophomore Brett Findley (Bargersville, IN/Franklin Community) took first place in the 200 butterfly, finishing in 2:05.82.

Junior co-captian Nick Roersma (Grand Rapids, MI/Northview) won both of the diving events, taking the one-meter event with a score of 245.70, and the three-meter event with a total 230.20.

Wabash (1-0) will travel to Lexington, Kentucky on Friday to compete at Transylvania University.
