Smit, Sherer Combine for First-Place Finish at Wabash Hokum Karem

Senior Jared Smit (Lafayette, IN/Central Catholic) and junior Mark Sherer (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso) (right) took first place at the 40th Wabash Hokum Karem on Saturday. The two Little Giants finished the race in in 29:17. The Hokum Karem is a combination of cross country and relay racing. Each runner completes three one-mile loops. The Wabash Red Pack took second place in the team standings. Sophomore Dan Ruge (Chesterton, IN/Chesterton) and freshman Sean Dillon (Carthage, IN/Rushville) were fifth overall, finishing the race in a combined time of 30:27. Chris Weitzel (Laramie, WY/Laramie) and Dan Sweet (West Bloomfield, MI/Culver Military Academy) took 11th place (31:13). The Red Pack will race in the Great Lakes Colleges Association Championships on September 8 at Earlham College.
