Wabash One Run Short Against Wittenberg

One-run games have been familiar to the Wabash baseball team this season. The Little Giants ran into another one on Tuesday night, losing an 8-7 decision against Wittenberg University.

Wabash trailed 6-5 going into the ninth inning, but picked up two runs to give starting pitcher Marc Rowe (West Point, IN/McCutcheon) a chance to earn the victory. But the Wabash bullpen and defense could not close the door as two errors in the bottom of the ninth for gave Wittenberg the opportunity to snatch the win away from Wabash.

Sophomore outfielder Jake Martin (Rushville, IN/Rushville) led the Little Giant hitters with a a 4-for-4 performance. He also added two walks to his numbers for the day for a perfect on-base percentage. Freshman Mike Mack (Butler, IN/Eastside) hit his second home run of the season for Wabash, and Bryson Renbarger (Converse, IN/Eastern) added two hits to the effort.

The Little Giants have played 30 games with 14 decided by only one or two runs. They have lost eight games by only one run and four by only two runs.

Wabash (8-23, 1-8) will play Franklin College on Wednesday. The game will be played at Victory Field in Indianapolis, Indiana with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
