Three Runs Not Enough In Doubleheader Loss at Terre Haute

Wabash avoided the weather, but couldn't avoid the come-back efforts of Rose-Hulman as the Engineers swept the Little Giants in a twilight doubleheader at Terre Haute. Wabash fell 6-3 in the first game before losing the nightcap 7-3.

The Little Giants jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game one as the first three Wabash hitters loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batsman. Sophomore Josh Stanton (Mooresville, IN/Mooresville) brought two runs home with a single to right field. Jake Knott (Lafayette, IN/Jefferson) added another Little Giant run with a sacrifice fly in the first.

But Rose-Hulman came up with two runs in the third and another four in the sixth to earn the win in game one.

The Little Giants had to play catchup in game number two. This time Rose-Hulman came up with three first-inning runs before the Little Giants came up with a run in the third on a Garrett Alson (Rensselaer, IN/Rensselaer) RBI single. Knott added a second run in the fourth inning when he crushed a pitch over the center field fence for his first home run of the season to cut the Engineers' lead to only one run. Rose-Hulman put three unearned runs on the scoreboard in the fifth inning after Wabash committed two errors in the inning.

The Little Giants responded with a run in the sixth when Stanton doubled with two outs and scored on a throwing error by the Rose-Hulman third baseman. The Engineers got the run back in the sixth with a sacrifice fly and held Wabash in the seventh to finish the sweep.

Wabash is 6-17 on the season. The Little Giants will return to North Coast Athletic Conference action this weekend, traveling to Granville, Ohio to face Denison University.
