Little Giants Fall in Late Innings

A five-run seventh inning spelled defeat for the Wabash College baseball team on Wednesday afternoon as DePauw came from behind to defeat the Little Giants 10-3.

The Little Giants had taken a 2-1 lead in the sixth when Brandon Candiano (Dyer, IN/Andrean) doubled home Jake Martin (Rushville, IN/Rushville) with two outs. Wabash had tied the game one play earlier as Matt Carlson (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) scored when Martin's base hit to right field was bobbled, giving Carlson time to race home.

Wabash had one out in the top of the seventh when the Tigers got a base hit and a walk to put runners on first and second. A ground ball to second skipped into rightcenter field, scoring a run and opened the flood gates for DePauw. The Tigers went on to score a total of five runs in the inning. Wabash answered with a run in the eighth after Carlson opened the inning with a triple, but could not make up any more ground in the end.

Carlson and Candiano both had two hits to lead the Little Giants. Marc Rowe (West Point, IN/McCutcheon) suffered the loss after allowing only two earned runs in seven innings of work.

The Little Giants are 6-12 on the season. Wabash will return to action in the North Coast Athletic Conference this weekend against Ohio Wesleyan.
