Little Giants Fall in Conference Opener

The Wabash College baseball team travelled to Ohio to open the North Coast Athletic Conference portion of the season on Saturday, losing both games of the doubleheader to Wittenberg. The Little Giants lost the first game 11-1 before being edged out 2-1 in the nightcap.

The first game was Wabash score a run in the second to take the lead in the game before the Tigers came back with a seven-run fourth to earn the victory. Freshman Stephen White (Owensboro, KY/Daviess County) picked up the lone RBI for the Wabash squad, single in the second as part of a 2-for-2 performance. The freshman outfielder also drew a walk in the fifth.

Game two on Saturday saw Wabash trail 1-0 after the first inning when Wittenberg hit a solo homerun. The Little Giants answered in the top of the third when sophomore Matt Carlson (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) hit a two out solo home run to tie the game.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth when the Tigers broke it with a single run to give Wabash its seventh one-run loss of the year.

The Sunday game between the two teams was cancelled by rain.

Wabash moves to 6-11 for the year, 0-2 in the NCAC Western Division. The Little Giants will play DePauw University on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Mud Hollow Field.
