Thinclads Third at DePauw Invitational

The Wabash track and field team took third place out of 13 teams at the DePauw Indoor Invitational on Saturday.

Sophomore Peter DeYoung (Evansville, IN/Evansville Bosse) scored a first-place finish for the second weekend in row in high jump, clearing 6' 6" to take top honors. He also took second in the long jump with a leadp of 6.31 meters.

DeYoung was joined by top performances by several other Little Giants athletes. Darren Green (Dallas, TX) grabbed second place in the 200 meter run with a time of 22.97, followed by a third-place finish in the 400 meters (53.87). Junior Scott Hoyer (West Lafayette, IN/West Lafayette) was sixth in the 400 with a time of 54.15.

Freshman Dan Ruge (Chesterton, IN) took third in the 800 meter run, crossing the line in 2:02.90. Ruge, Mark Sherer (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso), and Zach Medler (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville) finished fourth through sixth in the 1,500 meters. Ruge finished in 4:07.51, Sherer crossed in 4:09.27, and Medler took sixth with a time of 4:12.77. Medler added a second-place finish in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:41.94.

Matt Latowski (South Bend, IN) was fifth in the 600 meters (1:27.15), and Sherer added a fourth in the 3,000 meters (9:22.28).John Crumpacker (Crawfordsville, IN/Ben Davis) tied for fourth in the pole vault, clearing 13-feet in the event. Chris Long (Kokomo, IN) added a fourth in the weight throw (13.14 meters).

The Wabash 4 X 200 relay team took third in the meet (1:36.98).
