DeYoung Qualifies For Nationals With First-Place Jump

Peter DeYoung (Evansville, IN/Evansville Bosse) too first place in the high jump at the University of Chicago Indoor Track & Field Invitational on Saturday. DeYoung cleared 6'8", reaching the NCAA provisional height, giving him the opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships March 9-10 at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh.

DeYoung added a third-place finish in the long jump with a jump of 20' 7 3/4" to lead Wabash to a fifth-place finish in the meet. North Central won with a total of 138 points, followed by Wisconsin-Whitewater with 96 points. Ohio Northern was third (58 points), Chicago took fourth (55 points), followed by Wabash with 41 points. Wheaton (39 points) took sixth place.

Jared Smit (Lafayette, IN/Central Catholic) took fourth in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:02.67. Pole-vaulter John Crumpacker (Crawfordsville, IN/Ben Davis) added a fourth-place finish, clearing 14' in the final round. Chris Long (Kokomo, IN/Northwestern) captured fifth place in the 35-pound weight toss (43' 1 3/4"), as did Dan Ruge (Chesterton, IN/Chesterton) in the 800 meter run (2:01.78).

The Little Giant thinclads will participate in the Purdue Open on Saturday, February 17.
