Grapplers Go 1-3 in Monon Bell Classic

Wabash played host to the 17th Monon Bell Classic over the weekend as part of the Allen Athletics and Recreation Center dedication ceremony. The Little Giants found the competition tough, finishing the super dual meet event with a 1-3 record.

Wabash opened with a 31-23 loss to Wheaton College. Logan Kuhne (Ft. Wayne, IN/Northrop) picked up the only victory on the mat for the Little Giants, defeating Wheaton's Kirill Suatov 10-2.

The Little Giants fell to North Central 38-12 in the second match on Friday night. Matt Endress (Evansville, IN/Reitz Memorial) picked up a 7-5 victory at 133 pounds for Wabash, and Kuhne moved to 2-0 for the weekend with a 5-3 win at 197 pounds. Heavyweight Jason Chapman (Carthage, IN) pinned North Central's Joe Pope just 1:05 into their Friday evening meeting.

Saturday saw Wabash fall to MacMurray 45-6 before rallying against Rose-Hulman in the final match of the Classic for a 25-22 victory. Endress captured a major decision win for Wabash with a 16-8 score at 133 pounds. Jason Lemler (Bourbon, IN/Triton) completed the Wabash win with a 7-5 decision at 157 pounds.

Sophomore wrestler Jason Scheiderer (Granville, OH/Granville) picked up his first college win with a last-second pin in a 141-pound exhibition match on Saturday. Scheiderer trailed 14-10 in the match before seeing an opportunity as his opponent switched positions, giving the sophomore the final pinning combination.

The Little Giant wrestlers will travel to Knox College on Saturday to participate in a triple dual meet.
