Zionsville High School wins Chemistry Olympics

CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN —On Thursday, April 19, 2002, a team of students from Zionsville took the grand prize, a silver flask, at the first annual Chemistry Olympics.

Members of the first place team included Ryan Nassenzafar, Becky Mercer, Matt Swanson, Stephen McCarthy, and Brian Quinn. Zionsville also captured second place, with a team of Jonathan Eessalu, Bobby Carnicella, Camille Young, and Brian Lawson.

Third place was awarded to Park Tutor School's team consisting of Kyle Shipley, Ben Pollack, Patrick Mihelich, and Ken Yon Hui.

Winners of the individual events were Becky Mercer (Zionsville) in the Solution Identification Race; Bobby Carnicella (Zionsville) in the Density Drop Contest; Ryan Nassenzafar (Zionsville) in the Periodic Table Test; Brian Quinn and Becky Mercer (Zionsville) in the Team Titration Race; and Kyle Shipley (Park Tudor) and Ryan Nassenzafar (Zionsville) in the Chemistrivia Contest.

The Chemistry Olympics was hosted by the Wabash College Chemistry Club, under the direction of Adam Moser ’03 and Dr. Ann Taylor.
