Wabash Takes Friday Night Game at Hiram

Hiram, OH - The Wabash basketball team continued its winning ways through the holiday season on Friday night with a 77-57 win in conference play over the Hiram Terriers.

The Little Giants have won four of their last four games, and have had at least four starters reach double figures in all four games going into the Hiram game. Friday was no exception, as all five starters hit double digits in points. Pleas Ferguson (Indianapolis, IN/Arsenal Tech) led the Little Giants with 20 points. Brady Claxton (Shelbyville, IN/Shelbyville) added 18, Ryan Short (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) had 12, Matt Storm (Anderson, IN/Lapel) finished with 11, and Joe DesJean (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) tossed in 10.

Wabash never trailed in the contest, taking a 7-6 lead after the game was tied at 2-2. The Little Giants stretched their first half advantage to 18 before settling for a 40-26 halftime lead. The second half saw the Little Giants open a 21-point lead on back-to-back baskets from Claxton to finish a 9-2 run with 12 minutes left in the game. The Terriers would cut it to 14, but would get no claser as Wabash earned its third win of the season in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

“We did the things we needed to do to win,” said coach Mac Petty. “We made free throws, hit the boards, kept the conference’s leading rebounder (S. Clinton Blockson) in check, and made the extra pass to get a better shot. That’s what any team needs to do to win.”

The Little Giants move to 5-7 with win, 3-1 in the NCAC. The weekend continues for Wabash on Saturday as the team travels to Meadville, PA to play Allegheny College in conference action.
