Rebounding, Defense Lead Little Giants To Win

Wabash grabbed 47 rebounds and held Kenyon to 39-percent shooting from the field on the way to an 83-76 victory in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Tuesday night at Chadwick Court.

The Little Giants outrebounded the Lords 47-36. Wabash had 16 offensive rebounds and shot 46-percent from the field.

Wabash jumped out to a 38-27 halftime lead behind the 11-point, 13-rebound first half of sophomore Joe DesJean (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) DesJean recorded his fourth double-double of the season, finishing the game with 14 points and 16 boards.

The game was tied twice by the Lords in the second half when junior Pleas Ferguson (Indianapolis, IN/Arsenal Tech) helped Wabash take the lead. With six minutes left in the contest and the score tied at 60-60, Ferguson scored six points, grabbed two rebounds and had one assist in the final six minutes, along with key three-pointers from Brady Claxton (Shelbyville, IN/Shelbyville) and Matt Storm (Anderson, IN/Lapel). Sophomores Reed Hoyer (West Lafayette, IN/West Lafayette) and Jesse Burgess added key points off the bench for the Little Giants. Hoyer finished with seven points, while Burgess added six including four free throws in the final minute of the game.

Feguson led the Little Giants with 20 points. Claxton and Storm added 13 points as Wabash had at least three starters in double figures for the third consecutive game.

The win moves the Little Giants' record to 4-7 on the season, 2-1 in the NCAC. Wabash travels to Hiram on Friday to play the Terriers in conference action.
