Smit toured the course in 26:14.8. The junior earned the trip to nationals after an eighth-place finish in the Great Lakes Regional Race last weekend at Hanover College.
Smit missed almost the entire 1999 season, running in only three events for the Little Giants due to a severe knee injury.
