Swimmers Win Second Dual Meet With Victory Over Rose-Hulman

The Wabash swimming and diving team pushed its record to 2-0 in dual meets this season with a 134-71 victory against Rose-Hulman.

The Little Giants opened by sweeping the top two places in the 400 medley relay. The team of Dean Fox (Aurora, IN/South Dearborn), Jon-Myckle Price (Logansport, IN/Logansport), Craig Haupert (Cedar Lake, IN/Lowell), and Noah Hopkins (South Bend, IN/Clay) took first place by finishing in 3:47.30, while John Sessa (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso), John Essex (Plainfield, IN/Plainfield), Paul Meyer (Indianapolis, IN/Broad Ripple), and Brandon Peacock (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) took second with a time of 3:58.70.

Nick Collins (Michigantown, IN/Clinton Central) was first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:30, finishing ahead of his freshman teammate, Brett Findley (Bargersville, IN/Franklin Community) who took second with a time of 10:53.70. Sophomore Ben Long (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) was first in the 50 freestyle with a winning time of 22.15.

Nick Roersma (Grand Rapids, MI/Northview) continued his solid season on the diving boards for the Little Giants. Roersma won the one-meter exhibition event with 240.65 points, and took first in the three-meter exhibition with a total of 241.95 points.

Meyer continued the winning ways for the team with a first-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:07.95) ahead of Peacock in second (2:08.80). Gary Mineart (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville) won the 500 freestyle event (5:05.86), and Price took first in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.95).

Wabash completed the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay as Dan Burleigh (Great Falls, MT/Russel), Findley, Fox, and Long combined for a first-place time of 3:23.88.

"We continued to improve our times each meet," said coach Gail Pebworth. "I'm pleased with the effort I've seen from our young swimmers. I'm also thrilled with the job Roersma has done on the boards."

The Little Giants are 2-0 in dual meets, and will play host to Transylvania College on Saturday morning. The meet will be in the Class of ’50 Natatorium in the Allen Athletics and Recreation Center at 10 a.m.
