ENG 360 Studies in Multicultural/National Literatures: African-American Literature: The Novel
African Americans have employed the novel form in a variety of ways. In
this course we will sample this rich tradition in works by F.E.W. Harper,
Charles Chessnutt, James Weldon Johnson, Jean Toomer, Nella Larsen, Zora
Neal Hurston, Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, Alice Walker, Toni Morrison,
and Charles Johnson. We will consider how each work reflects its
particular historical/cultural moment as well as how it participates in
the American literary tradition. This course is offered in the fall
semester. (Not offered 2005-2006)
