Wabash Fifth after First Day of Swimming and Diving Championships

The first day of the 2003 North Coast Athletic Conference Championships concluded on Thursday with Wabash in fifth place after five events. The Little Giants are only 1/2 point out of fourth place and 16 points out of third.

Wabash finished the first day with 152.5 points. Kenyon leads the competition with 522 points. Denison is second (408). Wittenberg is in third place with 168.5 points, while Allegheny in fourth (153). Hiram (147), Oberlin (145), Wooster (142), and Ohio Wesleyan (116) round out the final places in the three-day competition.

Senior Nick Collins (Michigantown, IN/Clinton Central) finished eighth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:48.50, trimming almost a full second off of his preliminary time.

The second round of preliminary competition begins on Friday at 10 a.m. at the C.T. Branin Natatorium. The finals are set to start at 6:30 p.m. The meet concludes on Saturday, February 15.
