Tankers Earn Final Dual Meet Wins of the Season

The Wabash swimming and diving team earned two victories in its final dual meets of the 2002-03 season on Saturday, defeating Rose-Hulman and Millikin. The Little Giants finished with 76 points, while Rose-Hulman finished with 59 and Millikin earned 57 points.

The Little Giants overcame a sluggish start with five first-place finishes in the swimming portion of the meet, and a clean sweep by the divers on both the one- and three-meter boards.

Freshman Matt Perkins (Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg) took first place in the 100 butterfly, touching first in 54.43. Senior Nick Collins (Michigantown, IN/Clinton Central) was the winner in the 1,000 freestyle with a time, as was freshman Michael Brickman (Richmond Heights, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin School) in the 100 free.

Junior Steve Birrer (Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg) returned to the Wabash lineup after suffering an injury to win the 50 freestyle. The Little Giants 200 freestyle relay team of Brickman, Brett Findley (Bargersville, IN/Franklin Community), Dennis Bowers (Seymour, IN/Seymour), and Jeddah Wegerhoff (Avon, IN/Avon) won the final race of the day to secure the win.

The Little Giant divers swept both events in the three-team dual meet. Freshman Ben Origer (Germany), junior Demetrian Cook (Woodbridge, VA/C.D. Hylton Senior), and sophomore Howard Bailey (Moss Point, MS/Moss Point) took the top places in both the one-meter and three-meter competitions.

Wabash finished the season 5-3 in dual-meet competition. The Little Giants will participate in the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship meet beginning February 14 in Canton, Ohio.
